My 2019 in review

It\’s that time of year when everyone is reflecting on the year ending and setting goals for the future. Anyone following Jamie\’s Notebook at all knows this was a big year for me and my business so I thought I\’d touch on this year\’s highlights from my own perspective.

10-Year Anniversary

\"\"

I think any time you stay in business for a decade, it\’s a big deal. When you do it through global economic recovery and despite failing health, that\’s an even tougher thing. I\’m still able to work part-time so for me, making every moment of that count is important.

But Jamie\’s Notebook is still here. It doesn\’t look anything like it did 10 years ago, but I love what I do. I\’m grateful to the clients who have stuck with me through the years and the many who have joined along the way. Just this year, I worked with more than a dozen new companies and several have become ongoing clients.

I celebrated with a #10YearNotebook photo challenge, that you can find on Instagram.

New website

\"\"

It\’s still a work in progress, but a few weeks ago I released the first major overhaul of my website in years. The writing and design are all new, even though the logo remains the same. This new website describes more who I am as an entrepreneur and what that means for you!

NWA Business Women\’s Conference

\"\"

I was honored to be chosen to speak at both the NWA Business Women\’s Conference and the Rising Leaders Conference the day before. I shared about my entrepreneurial journey and how anyone can be an entrepreneur, even without starting a business.

GiveCamp NWA

\"\"

This was my second year to serve on the board for GiveCamp NWA and we had a record year with 15 nonprofits served. I also worked with another board member to completely redo our own website. The new design and new content better reflect who we are as a nonprofit now and in the future.

LegalShield/IDShield

\"\"

This summer, I joined LegalShield/IDShield as an independent associate. I joined as a member in the spring and realized how much the services could help my clients and I wanted to offer that opportunity.

Closing doors

There is a saying that \”everything is for a season.\” During 2019, I decided it was time for several seasons in my business to end because they required more time and energy than I could muster. I am no longer a part of the Masterminds of Biz Networking Group or the WordCamp Fayetteville Planning Committee. I also decided to no longer host my own workshops. I will still do custom workshops and one-on-one training by request only. In fact, I hope to do many more of them in 2020!

Community business

\"\"

Last November 2018, a friend and I decided to start a networking group for businesses in the Elkins community. Life happened and we didn\’t get going until February. The group is growing and we plan to formalize this year. We ended 2019 by putting on our first Elkins Holiday Expo. So very proud of this group getting going!

What\’s next?

\"\"

I\’m not one for resolutions or overly idealistic goals. I do usually choose a word to represent the year I plan to have and this year, I chose \”Enlighten\” for both personal and professional uses. From using my voice to advocate for better disability access, to enlightening my own heart and mind, to helping clients better tell their story, that\’s what I foresee this year being about. What about you?
