5 Quotes to Keep Your Entrepreneurial Mind at Ease

By Claudia Young, Writing Intern

I am a writer, a leader, and a small business owner. I am one of those people who loves to wear multiple hats because I get so much out of each responsibility.

As a writer, I get to create my own story and determine the ending. The Type A in me loves that since I can’t always control my own destiny. Now that I’m out of college and not getting graded on my writing, it’s a creative outlet for me. I love how each word connects to the next seamlessly – after a few rounds of edits, of course.

I love being a leader. It’s challenging and rewarding, even if I feel like I’m in over my head half the time. I thrive in a chaotic environment.

As a small business owner and photographer, both of these skills carry over. I have to be able to write well on social media, through email, and on blog posts to make sure my clients and potential clients know what I’m trying to convey. And without being a leader, my company would not thrive. I have to take charge and make things happen, or I will sink into the vast sea of other photographers.

One of my favorite ways to keep myself going – besides writing to-do list upon to-do list (I thrive on organization) – is to keep others’ inspirational words in my mind and around my workspace. Here are a few of my favorites:

\”Doing business without advertising is like winking at a girl in the dark. you know what you are doing, but nobody else does.\” – Steuart Henderson Britt

You have to keep in mind that if you’re a small business owner, you’re going to need some humor to stay afloat. Laugh at your mistakes and take note of what others have done to move past them.

\”If you think you can do a thing or think you can\’t do a thing, you\’re right.\” – Henry Ford

Your mindset is going to determine how far you go with your company. If you notice your mindset is largely focused on what you can’t do, take a moment to figure out why you feel that way and if it’s actually true. Chances are, you can do it.

First comes thought; then organization of that thought, into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination.” Napoleon Hill

Organization is a process and won’t become natural overnight. But the sooner you learn the process and intentionally document each part of it, the easier it will be to make your ideas into a reality.

“We don’t need to share the same opinions as others, but we need to be respectful.” – Taylor Swift

Regardless of if you like the pop star or not, this quote is simple and hard-hitting. It doesn’t matter if you disagree with someone, be it a co-worker, employee, or client. It is vital that we respect each other. A business with no concept of respect is not a business I want to associate with.

“I have seen many storms in my life. Most storms have caught me by surprise, so I had to learn very quickly to look further and understand that I am not capable of controlling the weather, to exercise the art of patience and to respect the fury of nature.” – Paulo Coelho

Although this quote is talking about real storms, the same can be said about metaphorical storms. Things in your life might be going crazy and you feel like you have no control. Well, you don’t have control over it all. What you do have is control over your reaction. Take time to take care of yourself in midst of the storm.
