Online platform writing focus of full-day course June 10

Village Writing School class geared to authors, small business and nonprofits

ROGERS, ARK.— Writing for online platforms and the best practices for some of the most commonly used platforms will be the focus of an upcoming all-day course at The Village Writing School.

The course, co-hosted and taught by Jamie Smith, owner of the writing services company Jamie’s Notebook, will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 10 at The Village Writing School’s new Rogers location at the Center for Non-Profits at St. Mary’s (1200 W. Walnut). The cost is $50, and while participants are encouraged to preregister on the Village Writing School’s website, registrations will also be accepted at the door.

Participants will learn:

  • The basics of online writing including formatting, search engine optimization and tips for good writing;
  • Best practices for website writing and navigation;
  • How to start and maintain a business blog; and
  • The basics of newsletter writing.

The workshop also includes several exercises that will assist participants in planning and producing their various online platforms.

“I’m gearing the information for a wide audience including any small business, non-profit, or writer who wants to explore a new niche,” Smith said. “It will be a day of intensive but fun learning about a skill that is vital in today’s world.”

The Village Writing School focuses on teaching people how to tell their stories in a readable and publishable way and is branching out to serve more writing needs. When the school relocated to Rogers, they decided to offer a wider breadth of classes including business writing courses to help the local small business community, said Executive Director Alison Taylor-Brown.

“These courses also help many of the school’s existing clientele as authors must consider themselves a small business of sorts as they promote their book,” she said.
