Writing for the Internet-new series with The Village Writing School (press release)

Village Writing School offers online writing series

School’s new Center for Nonprofits location will host the three-class series

ROGERS, ARK.— The Village Writing School will host a three-part series educating writers about the art of writing for online audiences. The three classes will be taught by local blog and website copywriter Jamie Smith, owner of Jamie’s Notebook.

All three of the sessions for the series, Writing for the Internet, will be at The Village Writing School’s new Rogers location at the Center for Non-Profits at St. Mary’s (1200 W. Walnut).

The first class, Writing Successfully for Online Platforms, will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 14. The session will discuss the difference between online vs traditional writing, as well as offer best practices and guidelines for writing for the internet.

The second class, Writing Your Own Website, will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 11. The session is for any small business owner who wants to learn best practices for their website’s content.

The third and final course, Simplifying the Art of Business Blogging, will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 9. Simplifying the Art of Business Blogging is designed to teach the basics of blogging for a business. The information will help small business owners either be prepared to start a business blog or will help them understand what to look for in a blog written by a freelance writer.

This series expands the Village Writing School’s focus on teaching people how to tell their stories, whether fiction or memoir, in a readable, publishable way. “Authors are small business owners, too,” says Alison Taylor-Brown, the school\’s founder. “Whether a writer is published in New York, regionally, or self-published, there is tremendous pressure on authors to have websites, blogs, and email newsletters.”

Instructor Jamie Smith has owned her professional writing company, Jamie’s Notebook, since 2009. She’s a sought-after seminar and workshop presenter. “I love working with small business owners like myself to help them find their online voice,” she said. “Finding one’s voice, be it your personal voice or corporate voice, empowers you to be genuinely successful.”
